Your Attitude Is Your Choice

One of my pet peeves is when a person does not accept responsibility for their attitude. They always come up with an excuse as to why they have a bad or sour attitude. They also think that it is out of their power to change it. It is not; they choose this excuse.

I have known people, as I am sure you all have, that have been dealt terrible and unfair circumstances in their life, yet they chose to have a great attitude each day that reflects their joy in just being here on this earth.

One of the most important things that we have complete authority over is our attitude. We can make it a treasure to share with others, or we can make it a foul odor that others will not want to be around. It is our choice.

I have this poem by Charles Swindoll posted in my office about attitudes and I think it says it all.

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me is more important than facts. Is is more important than education, than the past, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, or a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for the day. We cannot change our past….

We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable…

The only thing we can do is play the one string we have and that is our attitude…

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you… We are in charge of our attitudes.

My friend Paul Mark Sutherland has the saying below posted on his blog Goal Habits; it is a great reminder each day I read it.

Enjoy today. Achieve today. Tomorrow is promised to no one!
