With a title like “workplace issues” where do you begin?  Interestingly enough I happened upon a website called “

Six Seconds is a not-for-profit organization which invites leaders from around the world to identify the key challenges in the workplace today.

They recently released a report from a survey consisting of responses from 775 leaders and employees identifying the top workplace issues focusing on the people-side of performance. The link below will take you to the site where you can download a copy of “The 2012 Workplace Issues Report.”

The top three issues identified were:

1. Retention of employees

2. Talent – attracting talented employees

3. Leadership –  lack of it.

So many companies worldwide are struggling with these three issues and more.  According to Six Seconds, the reason for most of the issues is the lack of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in the business place.

The report points out that in 2012, 66% of the workplace issues stemmed from people and relationships.  If companies do not have leadership that can and will address these issues by using emotional intelligence, they will not be resolved.

Lack of emotional intelligence results in low employee morale, lack of trust, and high employee turnover.

Companies with leadership that are trained and apply emotional intelligence create a work environment in which employees thrive, produce more, and are happier.  This in turn means less turnover and more attraction to talented employees.

One would think with this information and these statistics available more organizations would focus on EQ in the business place.  The information in this report is very enlightening no matter what your position at work is.
