When You Compromise Your Values

Whether you work for a large corporation with a lot of co-workers or a small business, you should do what is ethically right no matter what others around you do.

You and only you can claim the fame of your integrity.  I have heard employees’ state “Well, if they are not doing what they should, then why should I?”  My questions for you would be “shouldn’t you do what is expected of you no matter what?”

Should you act like a lemming, just following what everyone else does?  If they jump off the ledge then you should too?

We know the correct answer is “no” but sometimes we end up following the crowd and compromising our values and beliefs. Even if it is just for a moment, it can be damaging to your reputation.

Below is a saying that apparently Mother Teresa had in one of the children’s homes, it is great advice and so very true.  Just do what is right anyway and you will not have to second think anything. Or have anyone second think what you have done.

Do It Anyway

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.

LOVE THEM ANYWAY.

If you do good, people accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.

DO GOOD ANYWAY.

If you are successful, you win false and true enemies.

SUCCEED ANYWAY.

The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow.

DO GOOD ANYWAY.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.

What you spent years building may be destroyed overnight.

BUILD ANYWAY.

People really need help but may attack you if you help them.

HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.

GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU’VE GOT ANYWAY.

~From a sign in Mother Teresa’s children’s home of Shushu Bhavan, Calcutta, India
