What’s Up With My Co-worker?

Along with the recent time change you may have noticed a change in co-workers or your employer’s mood.  Maybe they seem sad, grumpy or really tired.

Many people are effected by what is called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which can happen during this time of the year.

The first I heard of SAD was a few years ago when one of my fellow co-workers talked about struggling emotionally when the time changed and he lost the extra daylight each day that he used for out-of-door activities.

He said that he had the problem for a few years and really dreaded the coming of fall when the clocks would be set back.  There was a real change in his outgoing personality that everyone could notice.

Some of the common symptoms of SAD are;

  1. Sadness

  2. Grumpiness

  3. Lost of interest in normal activities

  4. Sleeping more and being drowsy in the daytime

  5. Craving Carbohydrates

  6. Weight gain

After doing some research he found out that there was a reason for his mood change and that there are things that you can do to help get through the winter months.

Once having the knowledge of what was causing this problem for him, he was able to prepare better for the winter months keeping himself more active with exercise at a gym and home equipment.  This has made a tremendous difference in his life at home and at work.

Half of the battle is knowing what you are battling.  The links below give more information on SAD that you might be able to pass on to a friend, co-worker or family member who may be suffering from these common winter month symptoms.

Life is just too short to be SAD, pass this information on if you think it might help someone you care about.
