When speaking with some friend the other day one of them expressed being upset by the fact that at her company they are using the term “Holiday Tree” instead of Christmas tree this year. She felt like her company was trying to do away with the fact that it was Christmas which was going to be celebrated.
I asked her if she realized that in today’s multicultural society that December is a month that many cultures and religions have celebrations. As I listed several of the Holidays below, she admitted that she did not have any idea that there were so many and just because she celebrated Christmas that there possibly were others in her company that did not.
Stating it is the “Holiday Season” or calling a Christmas Tree a “Holiday Tree” is becoming more a more accepted term, especially in diverse communities.
This does not mean that society is trying to downplay or get rid of the Holidays that each of us love and cherish, what it does mean is that we have so many more Holidays to respect and to participate in!
