Employee record keeping is essential no matter how large or small your practice is. Treat your employees with respect and never ignore any problem that an employee has as these are the people that represent your business and you should care about them and their employment environment. Make sure that you have an open-door policy that all of your employees feel free to use when they need to talk about anything that might be bothering them or an idea that they want to share.  As an employer make sure you know what the employment laws are of your state and keep detailed employee records as you never know when you might need them.  Your employment policies need to be documented in an employee manual given to each employee upon hire date, make sure they read it and have a signed form that this was done in the employee’s file to refer back to if there ever are questions that arise.  Give regular employee evaluations, whenever they are needed or at set dates.  Addressing issues as they arise is the best way to nip any problems in the bud, and not wait until it is evaluation time as it may be like “water under the bridge” when you try to address it months later, by doing this you can move ahead on a daily basis which is best for your business.  Your employees are your life-line to your patients and you must value them as much, if not more, than those you treat, because without them where would you be?  Make sure you know what the laws are about handling all employee issues prior to them presenting themselves, your practice will run much smoother if you do.
