A friend of mine sent me some old proverbs to read, I found them interesting and thought-provoking. A particular one stood out when I read it.
“The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.”
When you think about this it is so true. How many times have you come up with a great idea and everyone else thinks it is not? We are able to think of so many things that are right with the idea and have a hard time thinking of any of the negatives. Yet when we pursue our great idea it does not turn out even close to being good.
Seeking wise counsel is always an excellent idea. Do you have someone who could serve in the capacity of a counselor, adviser or mentor to you? If you do not, then start seeking one out, a good mentor/adviser is worth their weight in gold.
Then when you face big problems or come up with what you think are great ideas you will have someone who would be there to listen and give you sound, unbiased advice.
Just recently my husband and I were talking about a plan that I have and I asked him for input as to what he thought, and he gave it to me. It was not exactly what I wanted to hear, but he told me what he truly thought about the idea from his point of view, which is something that I never would have come up with and it helped me rethink some of my idea.
I do not want to have “yes people” advising me, I want people who will give me their honest opinions, so I can make better decisions and see things from different points of view.
There is one thing that we need to remember, and that is, being smart is not knowing all the answers, it is knowing when and where to find them.
