Ken Blanchard’s quote “None of us is as smart as all of us” is one of my favorites that I use often when consulting or lecturing.
It is when a group of people who work together realizes that it is their combined knowledge and effort that makes the difference, that they become a real team.
They realize that everyone on the team has to be focused on the success of the team rather than on their own individual success. They strive to work together for the common goal.
Teams are not made overnight and they often run into some bumpy terrain as they begin to work together. It is their loyalty to the committed members and the common cause that keeps them together trying to work through any obstacle they encounter.
At my place of employment, whenever we hire a new employee the team as a whole has adjustments to go through, just like a bump on the road and sometimes it takes a while to smooth things out.
What is so satisfying to witness, as a manager is when the older team members gather around the new ones helping them to feel comfortable and to find their place on the team. Encouraging them in their efforts and willingly bestowing their knowledge to help them.
If you have followed my blog for any length of time you will know that cultivating an excellent work team is one of my passions. I enjoy seeing each member grow and then take off using skills and knowledge to help others and make our place of business a great one.
A team is a wonderful thing. It allows people to achieve things together that they never would have by themselves.
