Yesterday, as I was working on my 2016 goals and commitments I noticed that I was becoming a little stressed, okay maybe a lot stressed. I was having a hard time focusing on just one thing as it seemed like a million thoughts were going through my mind at one time.
I was jumping from one project planning to another and not really being productive with anything. It was when I began to pace the floor, talking out loud to myself, and noticed a feeling of tightness in my chest, that I realized I needed to stop, regroup and start working on my “action item list.”
This is the form I use that has sections for what the project is, what the steps are to complete it and then due dates for each of the steps until it is finished.
I sat down and looked over the items that I wanted to complete “my wish list” and the items that I needed to complete “already committed to projects.” I then to put them in order of completion date. Once this was done I could put them on my “action item list” in order and filled out realistic due dates for the steps needed to complete the projects.
As I was busy, productively working away I realized that I started feeling physically better. I then stopped and sat with my eyes closed and did some deep breathing that I learned in yoga, breathe in one nostril and out the other, in one nostril and out the other. It was amazing how calm I began to feel. I also began to have a sense of peace about my “action item list” knowing that I was making a plan for success, it felt good, very good.
It is amazing, in as much as I know how to make things easier for myself, I often forget and allow stress to step in instead of taking control of the situation and making a clear plan.
Well, I am thankful it did not take me too long to remember yesterday!
