Blues

I posted this last year and felt that the message is important at this time of year to bear repeating.  I hope that all of you had a nice Holiday time and may you be blessing in this coming New Year!

After the excitement of the Holidays people can feel a bit down upon returning to work. These after “Holiday Blues” can be caused by many things, here are a few of the most common.

1. Time with family and friends was so wonderful, but it just wasn’t long enough. People feel sad about the briefness of the Holiday after such planning, build up of emotions and anticipation of it.

2. The Holiday was not so nice. Things didn’t turn out as planned. Possibly there were hurt feelings, anger or bad memories that transpired.

3.Traveling was stressful and a hassle. It was not worth the time and money it took to be with family and friends for just a day or two.

4. The most common reason for after Holiday blues is the realization that you over extended your Holiday budget and now will have to figure out how to get out of debt.

Whatever the reason is for feeling down, the reality is that you need to return to work and you are having a hard time with shaking that blue feeling.

As hard as it may be, one of the best ways to shake the blues at work is to focus on your work tasks 100%.

Connect with those at work and share your Holiday stories with each other. Even if you didn’t have the best Holiday. By sharing with your co-workers they will get to know a bit more about you and understand why you may be a bit down.

If your Holiday was full of joy possibly your Holiday spirit may flow over a little in the office and uplift others.

A great and healthy way to pick yourself up is to break out your running shoes and take a walk, jog or run. Exercise is one of the best ways to beat the “blues.” You will be doing something good for yourself and exercise releases endorphins which can affect mood enhancement in a positive way.

When the blues hit you start looking for ways that you can take your mind off of the blue thoughts and onto what can make you feel better.

Plan a short get away or even your next vacation. Work on a hobby or special project that you have wanted to do. Refocusing your thoughts and actions will help to move yourself ahead, see things clearer and keep moving on with life. See the link below for more blues shaking ideas.
