Security or Opportunity ?

In life we seem to have a choice of security or opportunity. I say “seem to” as in many cases I would argue that opportunity is more secure than seeking security. For example people tend to get a job after school as it is more secure than owning a business….. Well is it? I am not saying that you need to have a business to have opportunity; I am talking about the underlining reasoning for a job versus business.

As I write this I reflect back on a comment that was made to me about the number of people who leave prison and reoffend, just to end up back in prison. I am sure that there are many reasons for this, however one reason for some is that prison is a secure place that they can depend on. They know the routine, get accommodation and meals…. It becomes a security blanket for some people.

So when you think about what you are doing with your life is it based on a need of security or is it based on what adventure and opportunities lay in front of you? I encourage you to be the free bird in the wild, rather than the secure prisoner. Yes there are risks with living a life of opportunity and adventure. Though I encourage you to plan and manage these risks. I believe there is a greater risk in seeking security over the long run……..
