The definition of a coach is one who trains, instructs and teaches others. Not everyone is called to be a coach, but when is comes to the work place it is necessary to have someone in this position to rally the employees. Usually this falls to the office manager, department supervisor, lead staff person or the business owner. Many times these people have never coached before and possibly never been on an athletic team to experience what being coached is all about. There are certain qualities that a coach needs to successfully lead their team to victory. The four main qualities are competence, personality, empathy and integrity. Study any great athletic coach like John Wooden, Vincent Lombardi or Don Shula and you find examples of what qualities are needed to become a successful coach whether you are on the field or in the office.
