I recently read a story about a speech that Winston Churchill gave in his later years at an English prep school. Apparently, the headmaster told the students to pay careful attention to every word that Winston Churchill said during his speech and to write it all down. The headmaster knew that this speech would be an unforgettable one for everyone who attended.
When Mr. Churchill stepped up on the platform he peered over the top of his glasses and said: “Never, never, never, never, give up!” With that he turned around and sat down.
Many people were very disappointed. As the headmaster pondered what Churchill said he felt this may have been one of his greatest speeches, as it was the lifetime lesson that Winston Churchill had learned that he shared with them. He never gave up.
Persistence is the key to get where you want to go. It is not about trying to get there, it is about doing what it takes to get there.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
