Obtaining Personal Goals

“The important thing in life is to have a great aim, and the determination to attain it.” – Goethe

Okay I know you are probably thinking what is new under the sun that can be said about reaching goals.  Probably not a lot new can be said, but I know that there are a lot of us that have a hard time reaching a goal that we really would like to obtain in our life time.

I just want to share with you a personal experience that I had in reaching a pretty far-fetched goal (at least is seemed that way when I set it).

When I turned 50, I made a five-year plan and a 10 year plan with sort of a bucket list of things I wanted to do before I turned 60.  Now just to let you know I only have about 10 things on this list so it is not extensive and does not include, jumping from an airplane, climbing Mt. Everest or any underwater activity.

One of the items that I wanted to reach on my five-year plan was to take each of my three children on a trip to Italy, which is the land of our relatives and several still live there.

At the time, I chuckled wondering how I would be able to do this, but I just put it out there.

The first child I took was my daughter, Beth, who is the youngest, it just happened that way.  But once she got to go of course her brothers where anxiously waiting their turns.

My middle child a son, Jon and his beautiful fiancée Julie  got to go a 1 1/2 years later.

I am excited to say that as of April of this year, I took my oldest son Asher, (pictured at the top) with me on another fabulous trip.  I did it 3 kids, three amazing trips full of memories that we will always have and all in five years!

There were sacrifices made to do this, but for me all of them were worth every one.

My goal setting plan is very easy, there are just four steps to follow;

1. Make the decision (it has to be one that you are passionate about)

2. Make a plan (details are necessary as you do not want any surprises)

3. Track progress (adjusting and readjusting what is necessary to reach the goal)

4. Celebrate!  (We sure did each trip was different and wonderful)

For me I found if you do not begin the journey toward your goal, you will never reach it and life is just too short to not try.

Happy Sunday to you all!
