Okay it is Friday and the weekend is just 8 hours away. It has been a long hard week, but a rewarding one for those of us managers who have survived to make it to today. Managing any type of business, department or project takes a lot of thought and preparation. For those who think a manager position is glorious and glamorous I welcome you to give it a try.
Making and counting widgets is one thing, evaluating, communicating and motivating people is quite another and not a position to take lightly. We have a great responsibility to those we work for and those we work with. We are the glue, the balance, and the cheerleader. If you are a dedicated manager you know exactly what I am talking about. The week is almost over, give yourself a pat on the back, but only after you have given one to those who work with you first.
In celebration of making it to Friday I thought I would share this “quiet humorous” story that I found it gave me a good laugh. I hope you find it a funny as I did. Laughter is good for your health and well-being it releases endorphins which reduce stress, and that is a great way to start your weekend.
Should Managers Always Go First?
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and their manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, “I’ll give each of you just one wish.” “Me first! Me first!” says the admin clerk. “I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.” Puff! She’s gone. “Me next! Me next!” says the sales rep. “I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.” Puff! He’s gone.
“OK, you’re up,” the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, “I want those two back in the office after lunch.”
Morale of the story: Always let your boss have the first say! 🙂
