Since life is short, and it is. I enjoy looking for ideas and tips to make my life and those I encounter a bit better each day.
When I read the article below by Martha Beck for the “O Magazine” titled “10 Life Lessons You Should Unlearn.” It caught my eye because I wondered if there were things that I should unlearn in my life to make it better.
The article is very good. It has many “pearls” of practical wisdom that we all could benefit from. All 10 lessons are very important, but the one that touched me was “it is important to stay happy.”
It is sad to say, but most of the time it is easy to find the things we are unhappy about. The problem is we do not take enough time to look at how happy and blessed we really are?
Everyday things come our way which can throw us into a downward spiral of unhappiness and we allow ourselves to spiral down instead of climbing out and looking around at what is good and what we can be thankful and happy for.
It is important to reflect on happiness, it is very healthy for us, we need to make it part of our daily ritual either in the morning or evening. When we take time to reflect on “happy” it can change our outlook for tomorrow.
We can take our “happy thoughts” a step further by carrying in your pocket a token that reminds you of what makes you happy. Or put up on your office wall a picture something or someone that reminds you of what makes you happy. For me it is pictures of my family. If I am struggling, I can just look at them and it brings a smile to my face and a reminder of what is good in my life.
When we are happy and smiling at work we can make a big difference in the lives of those we work with and those we serve.
