Balancing all areas of one’s life can be difficult. We want to give our all at work and at home.
We hear a lot regarding balancing these two areas of our life, but if it were just these two areas that we needed to keep in balanced might not be so difficult.
In actuality, there are four areas in life that we need to keep in balance to be successful and achieve living the life we desire.
Work
Relationships/family/home life
Spiritual Life (whatever that is to you)
Health/Self
Think of yourself as a table and each of the legs as one of the areas of life above. If the legs are all equal, the table stands firm. If one leg is shorter or longer, the table becomes unbalanced.
It is the same with our lives, if we spend too much time on our work; we are short-changing ourselves in another area.
Most often we end up short in the area of Health. Although taking care of our health should come first – we often end up short in this essential area. Putting ourselves first – maintaining optimum physical and mental health makes it possible for us to move forward. We cannot create a positive mental attitude (PMA) if we do not take care of ourselves.
Maintaining a balance in the four areas of work, relationships, spiritually, and health can be a challenge.
There are times when we need to invest in one area more than another. It becomes a problem when this is the norm. Such as spending too much time invested in work and short-changing our home, family and self.
We must continually make ourselves aware of how our table is standing. Are all of the legs even?
If you were to set a glass of water on your table today would it stay in the middle or would it slide to one edge?
“Time and balance the two most difficult things to have control over, yet they are both the things that we do control.” ~Catherine Pulsifer
