Health, Holidays and Workouts at Work?

With the Holidays quickly approaching it is easy to slip on your regular exercise program for many reasons, such as trying to get shopping in after work, needing to decorate, do extra cooking and gift wrapping.  Or you could have an excuse like mine; getting that seasonal cold.  I hate to say it, but I was the first to get this cold which came on the day before our big Holiday party that everyone was over to my house for and now three other employees have this wonderful Holiday cold.  To say the least, when you are not feeling well you do not go to the gym or participate in your regular daily exercise, but this is where the problem begins, you get out of the habit even if you are only sick for a week.  It is so easy to not get back into the habit of exercise once you are off of your schedule for a few days.  I already have it in my mind and on my schedule that I am headed back to the gym on Monday, I know I will feel better by then and need to have my mind already set for getting back into the swing of things.  But what about just being so busy during the Holiday times, what can you do to help keep your exercise routine up, even if it is a bit different?  You could try to take a walk during your break, even if it is around the office parking lot a few times, or if you are shopping take an extra lap around the mall (up stairs and down). Keep moving no matter what you are doing, like baking…while you are waiting for goodies to cook do some deep knee bends and side stretches or jumping jacks.  I brought my hand weights to work and put them in the dark room to use while I am developing x-rays.  You just need to think about what you can do that will be exercise while you are having to do something else. The article link below has a few more creative ideas to keep in shape during the busy Holiday times so you don’t feel guilty about missing your regular exercise routine.  Don’t feel guilty, do something pro-active for yourself during this Holiday Season and then set the date when you will get back on your regular routine once it is over.
