I have been consciously looking for ways to pay compliments and kindness when I go into places of business. I know that there are many people out there in the work world that are really giving their 120% to their job and many times they are never thanked or noticed. Today I went to the grocery store early before work because I wanted to buy bagel and hot chocolate for my staff as a Friday treat for working so hard all week long. The store I went to was the one in my neighborhood that I frequent often.
When I walked in this morning the produce section was beautiful! The fruit and veggies were stacked in what appeared to be complementing colors and simple beautiful displays. The fruit was shinny and there were bags of nuts and little Christmas trees around the displays. It made me stop and just look. I knew that someone had taken extra care to present the department in such a festive way.
As I was checking out I told the cashier that I wanted to let him know that I have never seen the produce department look so beautiful before, that it really made a difference to the shopping experience. He told me that it was Kathryn’s work and that she started fixing it up at midnight (it was now 6:15 a.m.) and had worked really hard. She wanted to do something special with it for the Holiday shoppers. He was so happy that I told him it was beautiful and said that he was going to go find Kathryn and let her know because she would be really happy to hear how much I noticed the hard work she had done.
I told him to thank her for her hard work and I knew that the other shoppers would notice as I did. He promised that he would let her know.
It felt good to know that my compliment would make Kathryn very happy. We don’t have to do a lot to pass along kindness we just need to remember to do it and do it often.
Happy Friday!
