Some days at work can be very frustrating, you just think you are making progress, getting your desk in order and things caught up so you can move ahead and slam! ten things come up and you are back under a pile. You could call this job security, but it can take an emotional toll on you when your sights are set on moving on to other goals. In our office we have been trying to move ahead on a few projects for quite sometime and it seems like once we take a few steps forward toward a goal we either get hit with a wave that knocks us back or a tsunami that totally knocks our feet right out from under us. We have all felt the frustration and at times it is hard to keep the momentum going forward. When frustration hits you or your team there are three questions you need to ask to get back on the right track.
1. Why am I/we frustrated today? List all of the specifics that you can as to why you feel like you do.
2. What, if anything, can be done about it now, and if not now when? Briefly write down the what, and the when as this will help you focus on being realistic ,which will help lessen your frustration.
3. How, do I move ahead right now? Don’t allow yourself to become stuck because you have had a set back, move ahead knowing that it is only temporary and realign yourself to what needs to be done now, knowing tomorrow is another day.
Set backs can be very frustrating especially when they are major or seem to happening too often. The true key to moving ahead is focusing on the solution of the set back and having your goal continually in front of you so you do not lose sight of it.
