I was talking with a patient today at work and I mentioned that so many people forget that it is the journey each day that we need to enjoy, because the destination we will all reach one day is the end of our life here on earth as we know it.
He told me that he knows that he should be happier, but there is just so much “stuff” that gets in the way and he struggles with being happy in the midst of it.
I told him that I honored his struggles and understood, but I also know that happiness is a choice even in the midst of dark times we can find a little spark of happiness in something if we allow ourselves to look for it.
He looked at me and said, “You are right, I guess I need to make better choices and stop blaming situations for my unhappiness.” I hope he does….
