Fighting The Holiday Blues

With the Holidays falling in the middle of the week this year it can be a bit tough if you have to return to work the day immediately following a big celebration.

The midweek brief Holiday may have not allowed you enjoy your time as much as you would like to, and possibly you may feel a bit down.

It there after Holiday blacks cloud following you?  There could be several reasons for feeling the “back to work after Holiday blues” for example you may have had a wonderful time with family and friends, but it just wasn’t enough time and you are feeling sad about the brevity of the Holiday.

Maybe your Holiday was not so nice, things didn’t quite turn out the way you would have liked, or traveling was such a hassle that is wasn’t really worth the time and money it took to be with family.

One of the most common reasons for after Holiday blues is the realization that you over spent and now you will have to figure out how to get out of debt.  Whatever the reason the reality is that you need to return to work and are having a hard time getting back into the swing of it and just cannot figure out how to shake the blue feeling.

One thing that you might want to do to get back in the swing of being at work is just that; being present at work, get into what it is that you do each day.  Connect with those you work with and share your Holiday stories, even if they are not so great, by letting those you work with know that you are having a difficult time with the Holidays they will be able to understand better about you and be more sensitive to how you are feeling.

If you had a great time share that and let your Holiday joy flow a little in the office to bring that up-spirit to others.  Another good and healthy way to pick yourself up is to break out your running shoes and take a walk, jog or run.  Exercise is one of the best ways to beat the “blues” you are doing something good for yourself and exercise releases endorphins, which can affect mood enhancement.

When the blues hit you start looking for ways that you can take your mind off of what is making you blue and onto what can make you feel better, such as planning a short get away or even your next vacation, maybe a hobby or special project that you have wanted to do.  Refocusing helps you to move yourself ahead, see things clearer and keep moving on with life.
