In light of what has happened in Japan over the past week our office needs to take a good look at what type of EPA (Emergency Action Plan) we have in place and does everyone know what it is, as we have had new employees since we first initiated it. All employees know that we have emergency exit plans posted in each patient room, bathrooms and waiting room, but do we all know what we would do if an actual emergency or disaster were to happen? According to many state compliance laws along with OSHA places of business need to have emergency action plans in place for their employees to follow, but what should these look like? Each person in your place of employment needs to know what their part is in providing a comprehensive plan of safety for patients or customers, along with the working staff. Depending on the actual emergency or disaster things for each staff member may be different. Such as in a fire the first thing you would want to do is get everyone out of the building and to a safe area outside. But what if your emergency were an earthquake or flood, what would you need to do then? Every building in every town or state could be different, you need to design your plan of action for where your office is and what type of building you work in. Over the past several years we have seen horrifying disasters happen in the world in which we live, the better prepared we are the better we will react and hopefully have a positive outcome. The website link below is to the "Office of Congress" website for office emergency action plans, where you can find information to help your office be better prepared for any type of emergency that may arise. Remember we can never over prepare for a disaster or emergency.
