Develop A Smiling Attitude

It never ceases to amaze me that something as simple as a smile can change someone’s day from bad to good or good to great.  Smiles are multifaceted, did you know that smiling is can also help you to deal with stress?  Try it, you just feel good when you smile.  There is so much truth in the proverb  “A smile is the shortest distance between two people” as smiling is linked to the production of the hormone oxytocin.  This hormone is often called the “caring hormone” because it causes bonding between people.

A smile holds a lot of power, it can bring perfect strangers together, We have seen this happen time and time again in our medical practice waiting room.  Total strangers will be sitting together waiting for their visit with the doctor, one shares a smile and the other responds with a smile, they start talking, and before you know it you are calling one back to the treatment room and they part like they have been friends forever.  I am sure you have had similar situations, either in the grocery store, bank or a restaurant.  People are naturally drawn to people who smile, just try to see how many you can give away in one day and count how many smiles you received because you gave one first.

Yes, a smile is an amazing thing, we each have the ability to share literally hundreds a day making positive changes not only in our life by the way it makes us feel, but in the lives of those we share them with.  But the most amazing thing of all about a smile is they cost us nothing to give them away…they are free.  Share them abundantly it will change your outlook on life and how you feel each day.
