In doing research for a new lecture that I am preparing on “Attitudes” I am repeated reminded that it really is up to each of us which attitude we are going to choose each moment of each day. Many times because we are struggling with personal issues we forget that we still have this choice. Picking the right attitude about ourselves and how we feel about our profession is a direct reflection of who we really are. Whether we realize it or not when you work with people and are in a service oriented profession people are watching you and making judgments about what type of person you are by the attitude you are displaying at the time. Along those same lines when you are being watched by those you serve at work you have the ability to influence them by the attitude you are displaying and this can be a great joy when you are uplifting them with a positive attitude. Choosing your attitude is something only you can do, so it is up to you to decide who wins.
Two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
